SUMMARY IN ENGLISH
Mathilde was a pretty lady , born in a poor family . She was married to a clerk . She suffered a lot of misery as she felt that she had been born for better things . All - day , she would be daydreaming of luxurious houses , dainty dinners , elegant dresses and beautiful jewellery .
One day , her husband came home very happy . He had an invitation to a Ball for both of them from the Minister of Public Instruction . He thought his wife would be happy , but she only got angry and threw the invitation card on the table . On being asked why she reacted in such a manner , she replied that she did not have the proper dress for the party . Her loving husband gave her all the money he had set aside to buy a gun . When the dress was ready , Mathilde's husband saw that still she was not happy .
On being asked the reason , she said that she had no jewels . Exasperated , her husband asked her to wear fresh flowers . When she refused to do so , in desperation he told her to borrow jewellery from her dear friend - Mrs . Forestier . Mathilda borrowed a diamond necklace from her . She was a great hit at the party . Everyone admired her . She danced till 4 a.m. and then went home tired , but happy . On reaching home , she decided to take a final look at herself .
She was terribly shocked when she found the necklace was missing . They looked everywhere for it , but it was nowhere to be found . They went to the police and also put an advertisement in the papers . In the meantime , they wrote to Madame Forestier that the clasp was broken and also that they would get the necklace repaired and return it . When the necklace was not found , they decided to replace it with a similar necklace . They bought it for forty thousand Francs , and had to take a loan for it . In order to repay the loan , they took a rented room and turned away the maid . All the household work was done by Mathilde .
Mr. Loisel took up overtime work to save money . This life continued for almost ten long years , by the end of which Mrs. Loisel looked old and scruffy.One day she happened to meet Mrs. Forestier who still looked young . Mathilde told her the whole story . Shocked at the story , Mrs. Forestier told her a shocking truth i.e , the diamond necklace that she had lent to Mathilde had been made of artificial diamonds and was worth only five hundred francs .
رگڑ رگڑ کر صاف کیا کوڑا کرکٹ بہت خستہ حالی قیمت کم کی التجا کی میتھلڑے ایک غریب باپ کی بیٹی تھی ۔ وہ بہت خوبصورت تھی ۔ اس کی خواہشات بہت تھیں ۔ لیکن غریب باپ کے ہاں پیدا ہو کر وہ خوش نہیں تھی ۔ کسی امیر سے شادی کی خواہش تھی تا کہ وہ اپنی زندگی عیش و عشرت سے گزار سکے ۔ قسمت کی ستم ظریفی اس کی شادی ایک کلرک سے ہوئی جو وزارت تعلیم میں اپنی خدمات سر انجام دیتا تھا ۔ ادائیزل اچھا شوہر تھا لیکن وہ امیر نہیں تھا ۔ جو میتھلڑے کی تمام خواہشات پوری نہیں کر سکتا تھا ۔ ایک دن اس کا خاوند بہت خوش خوش گھر آیا اس کے ہاتھ میں مسٹر کی گرینڈ پارٹی کا دعوت نامہ تھا ۔ دعوت نامہ دیکھ کر وہ خوش ہونے کے بجاۓ پھوٹ پھوٹ کر رونے لگی ۔ اس کے پاس ڈھنگ کا کوئی لباس ہی نہیں تھا جو وہ اس خاص موقع پر زیب تن کرتی ۔ اس کے شوہر نے اسکو 400 فرینکس دیئے جس سے اس نے ایک بہت اچھا لباس سلوالیادہ پھر اداس ہو گئی اس کے پاس تو ہار نہیں تھا ۔ پھر اسے خیال آیا کہ اس کی دوست میڈم فور بیٹر کے پاس جائے اس سے ہار پارٹی میں پہننے کے لیے ادھار لے لے ۔ اس کے دوست نے ہیروں کا بہترین بار اسے دیا جس سے وہ بہت خوش ہوئی جب وہ پارٹی میں گئی تو وہ سب سے زیادہ حسین و جمیل نظر آرہی تھی سب سے زیادہ خوبصورت وزیر نے اس بات کا نوٹس لیا اور اس کی خوبصورتی کی تعریف کی پارٹی کے اختتام کے بعد جب وہ گھر آئی تو یہ دیکھ کر اس کی چیخ نکل گئی کہ ہار غائب ہے اس کے خاوند نے اسے ہر جگہ تلاش کیا لیکن بار نہیں ملا ۔ چنانچہ وہ جیولر کے دکان پر گئے اور اس طرح کے ہار کی قیمت پوچھی یہ سن کر ان کے پاؤں کے نیچے سے زمین نکل گئی کہ بار کی قیمت چالیس ہزار فرینکس تی اس کے خاوند کے پاس آٹھ ہزار فرینکس تھے باقی اسے بھاری سود پر لیے اور بار خرید کر اپنی دوست کو لٹایا ۔ دونوں نے دن رات دس سال تک محنت کی اور قرض ادا کیا ۔ میتھلڑے اب وقت سے پہلے بوڑھی ہو گئی تھی ایک دن کافی عرصے کے بعد اپنی دوست سے ملی جو اس کو پہچان نہیں سکی ۔ اس سے وجہ پوچھی کہ وہ اتنی بوڑھی کیوں ہو گئی ہے میتھلڑے نے اپنی پوری کہانی سنادی اس کی حیرت کی انتہا نہ رہی جب اسکی دوست نے بتایا کہ اس کا بار جعلی تھا جسکی قیمت صرف پانچ سوفرینکس تھی ۔
